Production 1

     Yesterday we finished our first day of filming and honestly, I felt like everything went well. We ended up filming at Nathan’s house and thankfully we were able to find a friend to help us with filming the movie and Nathan’s dad agreed to be in the film and play the part of Muhammed’s father. This played out perfectly because now we had an actor for every character as well as a cameraman.  

We finished filming half of our movie, which felt productive to me. Our first couple of scenes are supposed to set up for the rest of our film, so we wanted to make it apparent to our audience that this was a horror movie so that is why we included common themes seen in horror movies like people being left alone in a house.  

So, having the dad leave sets up that common theme and we decided to add some foreshadowing by having the father as he walks out the door say “watch out for the ghosts” seemingly as a joke while Muhammad replies “ghosts aren’t real dad,” which in turn, foreshadows the paranormal activity that will occur later in the film.  

Overall, our first day of production went rather smoothly. We only had issues with our first paranormal activity scene. This was because after Nathan’s dad was done helping us, he had to leave, so we had to find a way for our camera man to still be able to get the wide angle we wanted while still being able to flicker the lights and slam the door and keep the camera still. So, we tied a string around a doorknob so he could slam the door shut and we wrapped two pieces of string going in opposite directions on the light control knob to flicker the lights on and off. He would pull on each individual string to turn the light knob different directions and then when it was time, he yanked on the string on the door slamming the door loudly.
